New unit to ensure Jaffna security - Investigation regarding uniform (Photos)

Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana stated that an investigation has been launched into the new unit and its uniform allegedly set up by the Jaffna Municipal Council to ensure the security of the city.

Accordingly, the Jaffna Police has already taken steps to obtain statements from several parties including the Mayor and the Municipal Commissioner.

The unit was set up by the Jaffna Municipal Council recently to take action against unauthorized dumping of garbage in Jaffna and other steps taken to pollute the city of Jaffna.

Five persons who were appointed to the Unit were given a light blue shirt, and a dark blue pants, while the logo of the city council is stiched on to the right hand of the shirt.

The Municipal Council has also decided to impose a fine of Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 10,000 for polluting cities, including illegal dumping of garbage.

The investigation was initiated following the complaints lodged by several parties regarding the said unit and the uniform.
