The protest was staged by Kuchchaveli residents demanding that the billboards erected by the Eastern Provincial Governor's Office to prevent them from entering government reserves in Trincomalee be removed.
The protesters alleged that they had owned the land since 1967. However, they temporarily evacuated the areas during the war era.
The residents of the area who blocked the vehicle of the Provincial Governor who was travelling from the place where the protest was taking place requested for a solution to their problem.
The Governor said that after confirming the legitimacy of land ownership, farming activities could be carried out on them.
