Person arrested in BIA Katunayake

A Sri Lankan national who attempted to flee to Canada via Dubai using a fake visa has been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake this morning (14).

Our Airport correspondent stated that the victim is a 24-year-old resident of the Arampathi area in Batticaloa.

He had arrived at the airport at 3:15 a.m to board an Emirates flight scheduled to depart for Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Subsequent technical inspections by Immigration and Emigration officials confirmed that the Canadian visa had been forged.
