Another pregnant woman who was receiving treatment for COVID-19 died at the Karapitiya Hospital yesterday (09).

Hiru regional correspondent stated that the body of the deceased pregnant mother was taken to the Dadalla crematorium yesterday (09) afternoon in accordance with quarantine rules.

The deceased was identified as a 44-year-old woman residing in the Wilpita area in Akuressa.

The woman, who had issues conceiving for many years, had become pregnant through In Vitro Fertilization (IVF).

Her mother was first infected with COVID and later a PCR test on the woman confirmed that she was also infected with the virus.

She was later admitted to the Mulleriyawa Hospital where she was treated for a lung infection and was transferred to the Karapitiya Hospital on 29 April for further treatment.

She also gave birth to a stillborn baby the day before yesterday and later died due to the baby dying in her womb while being treated.

Meanwhile, 17 of her associates have also been diagnosed with coronavirus.
