MV X-PRESS PEARL: Debris from the distressed vessel reach SL coast (Photos/Video)

Debris from the X-Press Pearl vessel that is burning in the sea area off the Colombo Port has been washed ashore in Ja-Ela, Kapugoda and Sethupaduwa along the Negombo Coastal line.

The Marine Environmental Protection Authority (MEPA) stated that the debris from the distressed vessel is extending a distance of nine kilometres from Preethipura, Wattala to the Negombo Coast.

Among the debris are combusted pieces of containers and other materials.

The materials are being removed currently by security forces, with the help of the area residents.

MEPA further urged the public not to touch debris of fire engulfed X-Press Pearl that have washed ashore to Negombo coast since it could contain harmful toxic material.
