Debris from the X-Press Pearl vessel that is burning in the sea area off the Colombo Port has been washed ashore in Ja-Ela, Kapugoda, and Sethupaduwa along the Negombo Coastal line.

The Marine Environmental Protection Authority (MEPA) stated that the debris from the distressed vessel is extending a distance of nine kilometres from Preethipura, Wattala to the Negombo Coast.

Among the debris are combusted pieces of containers and other materials.

Police Media Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana stated that investigations are being carried out in search of persons who collected debris from the distressed vessel 'X-Press Pearl' that has been washed ashore.

MEPA Chairperson Attorney-at-Law Dharshani Lahandapura stated that this situation could lead to an acid rain in some areas.

However, the National Building Research Organization stated that the fire from the distressed vessel does not have an effect on the air pollution in the country.

Meanwhile, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has advised that to pay more attention to minimize the situation if there is an oil spill in the sea around the ship.
