250 kg iron buoy washed ashore - Suspected to be from MV X-Press Pearl (Video)

The Marine Environment Protection Authority has taken water samples to find out if there is an oil spill from the burnt and sinking MV X-Press Pearl.

The Ministry of Environment stated that a team of the Authority had approached the sinking ship.

The risk of environmental damage from this ship is estimated to last for about 20 years.

The Environment Minister Mahinda Amaraweera stated at a media briefing held in Colombo today that the law should be enforced against all those involved in the environmental damage caused to the country by the sunken ship.

NARA also stated in a statement that it was conducting research on the ship under the direction of its director-general.

Hiru Correspondent further stated that more than 250 kilograms of an iron buoy were found off the coast of Aluthgama Moragalla today, and it is suspected to be from the sinking ship.

It was also reported that a dead turtle and a dead dolphin had been found at Marawila Thudawa beach and Norochchola Ilanthadiya beach.
