Lanka Sathosa internal sources stated that the CCTV camera system of the Lanka Sathosa branch number one liquor store in Anuradhapura, which sold 800 bottles of liquor to a person despite the travel restrictions being imposed islandwide, has been deactivated or disabled.

This is against the backdrop of a police investigation into the incident.

The Excise Department has sealed all liquor outlets during this period when travel restrictions are in effect.

Hiru News team yesterday revealed the news of a stock of liquor being taken away from the liquor store of the Lanka Sathosa outlet in Anuradhapura.

Hiru News reported yesterday that an official of the Excise Department had come on the instructions of a high-ranking official of Sathosa and had joined hands with the manager of the sales centre and the employee in charge of the liquor store in the said act.

However, internal sources of the Lanka Sathosa stated that a person in a uniform had arrived in a vehicle and opened the warehouse with the assistance of several employees of the relevant Lanka Sathosa warehouse and had taken away the liquor bottles.

However, Sathosa's internal sources stated that the security camera system of the branch had been disabled or deactivated at the time of the incident.

According to internal sources of the Excise Department, the stock of liquor had been handed over to a member of the security forces with the intervention of an officer of his department.

However, the sources stated that the relevant amount has been paid to Lanka Sathosa.

It is reported that another person who was present at the time of the incident had also requested several bottles of liquor. Sources in the Excise Department stated that it was not agreed, and it is suspected that he had told the matter to an outside party.

Meanwhile, the Anuradhapura Police have commenced an investigation into the incident. According to police sources, the report will be submitted to the Trade Minister and the Chairman of the Lanka Sathosa.
