The Matara Police have raided an illicit liquor racket conducted at a three-storey house in the Navimana area in Makawita, Matara.
It was reported that two suspects have been arrested by the police.
It was revealed that the main suspect in the case was a former UNP Provincial Councillor.
A gas stove, a spiral barrel filter equipment, and 25,000 millilitres of goda, including a gas cylinder used to filter illicit liquor were seized by the police.
Investigations have revealed that the suspects had been distilling alcohol on the third floor.
The two suspects are to be produced before the Matara Magistrate's Court while the Matara Police Criminal Investigation Division is conducting further investigations.
