Farmers stage protests demanding fertilizer (Video)

Farmers alleged that their crops are being destroyed due to the lack of proper fertilizer.

A group of farmers engaged in the tea small estate industry who were inconvenienced due to the lack of fertilizer staged a protest at the Yakkalamulla Tea Estate in Galle this afternoon (24), displaying placards.

A tensed situation arose this morning between farmers and officials who visited the Embilipitiya Agrarian Services Center to obtain fertilizer for vegetables.

With the announcement that the Agrarian Officers will provide the fertilizer on another day.

Meanwhile, the businessman has been instructed to hand over a stock of fertilizer stored at a shop in the Maraka area in the Wilgamuwa Divisional Secretariat Division to farmers at government controlled prices after being inspected by customer service officers.

Accordingly, the businessman who sold a bag of fertilizer for Rs. 5000 took action to give a bag of fertilizer to the farmers for Rs. 1500.
