Three soldiers face termination after soliciting ransom from drug dealers

The Chilaw and Negombo Divisional Crime Investigation Units have arrested three soldiers for soliciting ransom from a woman and a man who were selling drugs.

According to the police, the suspects were arrested last night following a complaint that two soldiers had demanded ransom from a cannabis dealer and a drug trafficker residing in the Maikkulama area in Chilaw.

The two had tried to obtain Rs. 15,000 from the complainant.

Another soldier was also arrested for attempting to extort Rs. 80,000 from a drug dealer residing in the Seeduwa area.

Army Commander General Shavendra Silva has stated that action will be taken to terminate the three soldiers.
