Six women arrested for collecting funds fraudulently in Vavuniya

Police have arrested six women who were involved in a money laundering racket in several places in Vavuniya, claiming to be part of a human rights activist's organization that helps orphans.

Police said that a group of women were arrested for collecting money from houses in the Goodshed Street area in Vavuniya.

The arrest was made on a tip off from the residents of the area.

It has been revealed that the arrested women are between the ages of 20 and 35 and have collected money by claiming to help orphans.

When questioned, the suspects have said that they are paid Rs. 500 a day and that they would collect the money collected daily and give it to a leader of the relevant organization.

The 6 arrested women have been released on police bail.

The Vavuniya Police are conducting further investigations to arrest the leaders of the group involved in the incident.
