Hishalini's death: AG appoints team to advise on the investigation

The Attorney General has appointed a team headed by Deputy Solicitor General Dileep Peiris to advise on the investigation and legal action in the case of the death of a 16-year-old maid at the residence of Parliamentarian Rishad Bathiudeen.

A 16-year-old girl who worked at the house of MP Rishad Bathiudeen has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Colombo National Hospital with severe burn injuries and later died.

It has been revealed that a 16-year-old girl who is a resident of the Dayagama area in Agarapathana has dropped out of school in grade 7 due to poverty.

The girl, the third in a family of six siblings, has one older brother and four sisters.

The girl's family members stated that she went to the MP's house as a maid about seven months ago through a broker.

Relatives have also stated that they were not allowed to see her even once after she went to work.

However, the girl has sent money home every month and has spoken to her family members over the phone from time to time.
