The President emphasized that according to the information revealed about child slavery, a high percentage of children are estate-related and the Grama Niladhari Division should take action to prevent this.

Addressing a discussion with the Child Protection Authority and line agencies at the Presidential Secretariat this morning, the President stated that research on child development in other countries could be implemented in urban and rural areas.

Grama Niladharis have information on estate-related families.

The President pointed out that action should be taken immediately to stop child slavery based on information received that children are not available in the household.

The President also reminded that the main responsibility of the Child Protection Authority is to direct all children to compulsory pre-schools, schools, and Dhamma schools and to find out the reasons why children do not go to school.
