It is a pity that the authorities do not pay attention to some of the temples with historical value, no matter how many projects are being implemented to develop temples throughout the island.

Hiru News team received reports of such a temple with historical as well as archeological value from the Baddegama area.

Ihala Keembiya Sri Kshetraramaya Ancient Temple in Waduramba Village, Baddegama, Galle District which is shaped by ancient line painting, has been named as an Archaeological Monument as it inherits many historical facts.

The Buddha statues as well as the Deva statues of this temple which are made of wood and sculptures belonging to the Kandy era can be seen being destroyed today.

The service rendered by the Chief Incumbent Ven. Walahanduwe Mahindaratana Thera for the development of the temple by imparting Dhamma knowledge to many children of many families in the village is not insignificant.

He pointed out that the temple premises are also at risk of landslides due to rainy weather conditions.

The construction and development of temples have been at the forefront of many projects that have been implemented at various times based on the concept of village, temple, tank, and dagoba that have been handed down from the past.

In such a background, it is surprising that the responsible authorities did not pay attention to the diapilation of an ancient temple of historical value day by day.
