Death of young couple in Embilipitiya: Unauthorized power line - suspect to court

The suspect arrested in connection with the death of a young couple due to an unauthorized power line in the Pitawelagama area in Kolonna, Embilipitiya is due to be produced before court today (18), police stated.

It was reported that a 26-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl had faced this unfortunate incident on the night of 16 October.

The deceased has been identified as a resident of the Dickwella area in Matara while the girl is a resident of the Kolonna area.

It has been revealed that the two have known each other through Facebook and have been in a love affair for some time.

It is reported that the young man had come from the Dickwella area to meet the girl on the day of the incident.

The young man who came near the girl's house that night was talking to her when the residents saw this.

At that moment, the two had tried to run away in fear, and it is reported that they had fallen into a power line that had been illegally drawn to a nearby land and had died.

The bodies of the couple who were electrocuted were found yesterday (17) morning and the bodies were sent to the Embilipitiya Hospital for postmortem examination following the magisterial inquiry by the Embilipitiya Magistrate.

The PCR samples were taken and sent to the Ratnapura Hospital for further examination.
