MV X-Press Pearl: Cost restoring the environment to be calculated

The Chairman of the Marine Environment Authority, Attorney-at-Law Dharshani Lahandapura states that the preliminary report on the damage caused to the environment by the MV X-Press Pearl ship fire will be submitted by November 30.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa had recently instructed the Marine Environment Protection Authority to prepare a report on the damage caused to environment by the ship including the cost of restoring the damage caused by the fire.

Accordingly, the relevant calculations are being carried out by team including a panel of members from 11 sub-committees chaired by two eminent professors.
