Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bowl first against Bangladesh in their Super 12 clash in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup at Sharjah. Binura Fernando comes in place of injured Maheesh Theekshana.

Bangladesh scored 171 for the loss of four wickets in their 20 overs setting Sri Lanka 172 for victory and for the first points in the super 12 round.

Sri Lanka looked a little ragged in the bowling attempt, the option to try Charith Asalanka failed miserably with Bangladesh scoring freely. The Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim reached an enterprising 50 in 32 balls eventually scoring 57* in 37 balls while opener Mohammad Naim scored 62 off 52 balls.

Dushmantha Chameera was off colour while star bowler Hasaranga was taken for 29 in his three overs.

Sri Lanka fielded reasonably well but missed a crucial run out of Naim.

This is a challenging total but initial signs off the wicket seems to suggest that it is much better for batting than what was available for the IPL matches. 160 looked the par score on this ground.

Sri Lanka will need to make maximum use of the power play and keep the score board moving consistently in the middle overs to avoid unnecessary scoreboard pressure in the last couple of overs.

Sri Lanka might be tempted to try out the option of Wanidu Hasaranga up the order as a pinch hitter, the score board pressure could restrict his free flow, unless he has a very free hand to go after the bowling.

It points out to an interesting chase, with Bangaldesh placing a greater trust in their spinners while Sri Lanka went with the fast bowling options.

Sri Lanka: 1 Kusal Perera (wk), 2 Pathum Nissanka, 3 Charith Asalanka, 4 Avishka Fernando, 5 Bhanuka Rajapaksa, 6 Dasun Shanaka (capt), 7 Chamika Karunaratne, 8 Wanindu Hasaranga, 9 Dushmantha Chameera, 10 Lahiru Kumara, 11 Binura Fernando

Bangladesh 1 Litton Das, 2 Mohammad Naim, 3 Shakib Al Hasan, 4 Mushfiqur Rahim, 5 Mohammad Mahmudullah (capt), 6 Afif Hossain, 7 Nurul Hasan (wk), 8 Mahedi Hasan, 9 Mohammad Saifuddin, 10 Nasum Ahmed, 11 Mustafizur Rahman

"We would have liked to bat first," says Mahmudullah. "We need to adapt to the conditions. Hopefully, it's a good one to bat on. A bit of a relief after that first loss. The boys are relaxed. We have got one change: Taskin Ahmed is not playing, Nasum Ahmed comes in."
