Increase in COVID infections reported

Dr. Samitha Ginige, Chief Specialist in Epidemiology says that there is an increase in the spread of coronavirus in rural areas.

Addressing a media briefing held in Colombo today, he said that if the number of COVID patients increased abnormally, restrictions would have to be imposed in the country again.

Dr. Ginige pointed out that 10,837 of the COVID deaths reported from Sri Lanka were over 60 years of age.

Dr. Hemantha Herath, Media Spokesperson of the Ministry of Health also participated in this media briefing.

He emphasized that all activities for the upcoming festive season should be carried out in accordance with the health guidelines.
