The Deputy Director of Customs Sudaththa Silva stated that a group of officers of the Customs Narcotics Division have located a consignment of cannabis worth Rs. 20 million hidden in several parcels sent by air mail to the Colombo Central Mail Exchange today.

About a month ago these parcels were sent from England, USA, Italy and Canada to fake addresses in Colombo, Ahangama, Piliyandala and Kandy.

The owners of these parcels did not come to the Central Mail Exchange to pick them up and the customs officials discovered that the addresses given were fake when following up.

The Customs Narcotics Division later opened the 10 parcels and seized cannabis weighing 1.3kg.

Officers of the Customs Narcotics Division have handed over the stock of cannabis to the Police Narcotics Division for further investigations.
