The Meteorological Department states that heavy rains will continue in the island in the next few days.

Accordingly, heavy showers exceeding 100 mm are expected in the North, North Central, Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces and in the Puttalam and Trincomalee districts tomorrow.

Landslide warning issued for Colombo, Kalutara, Kandy, Kurunegala, Matale, Nuwara Eliya and Ratnapura districts has been extended to 3 pm tomorrow.

The Department of Irrigation stated that people living in the low lying areas of the Mahaweli, Nilwala, Deduru Oya, Rajanganaya and Malwathu Oya as well as several other reservoirs will be at risk of flooding for 48 hours.

The department also stated that 25 of the 73 main reservoirs are currently overflowing.
