Residents of Sravasthipura and Thalawa in Anuradhapura staged a protest at the Thalawa Teak Junction area, alleging that the decision to dig trenches as a solution to the human-elephant conflict had been halted.

The protesters said that the trenches were planned to be 10 feet wide and 10 feet deep and 17 kilometers long.
