US Senate Foreign Relations Committee in a Twitter message says that any IMF Agreement with Sri Lanka must be contingent on CBSL Independence, strong anti-corruption measures & promotion of the rule of law. Without these critical reforms, Sri Lanka could suffer further economic mismanagement and uncontrollable debt.

This was in reponse to a twitter message by IMF saying " The aim of the new IMF program is to restore economic stability and debt sustainability, while protecting the most vulnerable, safeguarding financial stability & stepping up reforms to address corruption vulnerabilities so that Sri Lanka can meet its full potential."
