The Kegalle High Court has sentenced a man to 48 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping his own daughter and forcing her to deliver a child.
The man had pleaded guilty to the offence after which he was sentenced by Kegalle High Court Judge Jayaki De Alwis yesterday.
The convicted, who is a father of three, was also ordered to pay a compensation of Rs.500,000 to the victim.
The court was informed that the child’s mother had left for Kuwait for employment when the victim was 13 years old.
Hence, the child had been residing with her father, who is a labourer, and her two siblings.
The court was informed that the man had raped his daughter several times during this period.
