Consumers say that the prices of chicken, fish, eggs, vegetables and coconuts are increasing rapidly in the market.
Accordingly, it is reported that the price of a kilo of chicken, which was sold at a price between 1,000 and 1,200 rupees, has increased between 1,500 and 1,600 rupees.
Also, the price of fish in the market is increasing rapidly.
A spokesperson of the Peliyagoda fish market stated that the wholesale price of a kilo of Kelawalla has increased to 1,900 rupees and a kilo of Balaya has increased to 1,400 rupees.
Apart from this, a kilo of thalapath is sold for 2,700 rupees and a kilo of salaya is sold for 400 rupees.
Also, although the government has imposed a control price for eggs, an egg in the retail market is still sold at a price between 53 and 55 rupees.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the All Island Canteen Owners' Association, Asela Sampath while attending a press conference held yesterday, said that apart from chicken, fish and eggs, the price of a coconut has also increased to 140 rupees.
