Colombo, November 20, 2023 - In a ceremony today (20), several new developments were unveiled at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake, marking significant improvements to enhance airport infrastructure and services.

The "Friendship" road, situated in front of the Katunayake airport, was inaugurated, providing improved connectivity and access to the airport. Additionally, a new access road to the arrivals terminal was opened, streamlining the entry process for passengers arriving at the airport.

To address the parking needs of departing passengers, a new parking lot was introduced, enhancing convenience for travelers using the airport.

Among the technological upgrades, a state-of-the-art air traffic management system was implemented to optimize airport operations. This system is expected to contribute to more efficient air traffic control and enhance overall safety.

In a commitment to sustainable practices, a new solar power system was inaugurated to cater to the airport's electricity requirements. This initiative aligns with broader efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of the airport and promote environmentally friendly practices.

The developments unveiled today is a step to modernize and enhance the Bandaranaike International Airport, ensuring a seamless and efficient experience for both domestic and international travelers.
