The 15-member National Sports Council will now be led by specialist Dr. Maiya Gunasekara, who brings a wealth of expertise to the role. The council comprises notable figures from various fields, reflecting a diverse range of perspectives and experiences.
The newly appointed members include former cricketer Sidath Wettamuni, Professor Arjuna de Silva, distinguished lawyer Panduka Keerthinanda, Ana Punchiheva, former president of the Sri Lanka Cricket, and Professor Rear Admiral Shemal Fernando.
In addition to the National Sports Council changes, former Army Commander General Shavendra Silva has been appointed as the Chairman of the National Sports Selection Committee.
The Sports Minister expressed confidence in the newly appointed members, highlighting their dedication to the advancement of sports in Sri Lanka. The changes aim to foster a conducive environment for athletes to excel and represent the country on the international stage.
