Colombo, June 121, 2024 - The longstanding Immigration Act No. 20 of 1948 has undergone several amendments over the years. However, due to the rapid changes in the immigration sector, technological advancements, and evolving international trends, the Cabinet of Ministers had approved the introduction of a new Act on February 15, 2021.

The Attorney General has cleared the draft Bill, which was prepared by the Legal Draftsman. Following this, the Minister of Public Security proposed to publish the draft Bill in the Government Gazette and subsequently present it to Parliament for approval.
