The Anamaduwa Police have arrested two individuals for allegedly attempting to sell a fake gemstone to a businessman by falsely claiming it to be a valuable gem. The suspects had tried to sell the counterfeit gemstone for Rs. 10 million to the businessman last night (23).

The businessman, suspecting the authenticity of the gemstone, alerted the police. The suspects, aged 34 and 38, are residents of Paramakanda in Anamaduwa and are believed to be involved in various fraudulent activities.

The arrests took place in the Thennankuriyawa area on the Nawagaththegama road. The police officers apprehended the suspects as they were attempting to rob the businessman of the money after showing him the fake gemstone. The suspects had directed the businessman to several locations before finally meeting him.

The arrested individuals are set to be produced before the Anamaduwa Magistrate’s Court.
