Born on November 10, 1935, in Akuressa, Yapa was the eldest of his family and was 89 years old at the time of his death, following a period of illness.
Yapa was renowned for his work as the creative director behind numerous award-winning films, including "Hanthane Kathawa," "Pembara Madhu," "Induta Mal Mitak," and "Piya saha daruwo." His short film "Minisa saha Kaputa," produced in 1965, earned him the Rajatha Mayura Award at the International Short Film Festival of India.
His contributions to cinema will be remembered as a significant part of Sri Lankan film history.
