The Supreme Court has ordered charges to be filed against the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration for contempt of court after failing to implement an interim injunction regarding the suspension of the e-visa system.
The court had previously directed the Controller General to appear in person today (13) following motions filed over the non-implementation of its order.
The interim order, issued on August 2, suspended a contract awarded to private consortium IVS-GBS and VFS Global for operating the visa issuance system. The court made this decision after considering Fundamental Rights petitions filed by opposition MPs M.A. Sumanthiran, Rauff Hakeem, and Patali Champika Ranawaka.
