The Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) has announced a robust program to further advance football in the country in 2025. FFSL President Jaswar Umar highlighted three key initiatives: A Year of Growth and Progress, Focus on Domestic and Youth Development, and Club Competitions to Kick Off.

Under A Year of Growth and Progress, the national team, currently ranked 200th in FIFA rankings, aims to climb higher by participating in eight international matches next year. Umar emphasized that administrative measures would support these efforts.

For Focus on Domestic and Youth Development, the FFSL plans to allocate increased funds to regional and domestic tournaments. A new youth competition, the Y19 League, will launch across 55 regional leagues with secured sponsorship. Additional initiatives include school and women's competitions, a new women's league, and enhanced coaching and referee training programs.

As part of Club Competitions to Kick Off, the FFSL will begin the Champions League in January 2025, involving all 14 clubs, and prepare for the Super League tournament in March 2025. Meetings with Super League and Champions League clubs have already been held to discuss the upcoming season.

These steps aim to bolster the sport's infrastructure, performance, and visibility across Sri Lanka.
