President Anura Kumara Dissanayake stated that Sri Lanka, currently in a probationary period under the International Monetary Fund (IMF) program due to past government mismanagement, has taken initial steps through this year's budget to create a strong economy.

Speaking at the "Post Budget Forum 2025," the President emphasized that the government plans to utilize the three-year grace period secured through debt restructuring to manage the economy effectively and ensure the country's ability to repay debts by 2028.

While many countries take a decade to recover from bankruptcy, he predicted that Sri Lanka could achieve this in less time. He also highlighted that the budget aims to increase State revenue to 15.1% of GDP, prioritizing efficient spending.

The President further noted that the budget focuses on integrating the rural population into economic activities, aiming to expand the economy and enhance citizens' financial well-being.
