Nominations were accepted for a total of 336 local government institutions, with nearly 2,900 groups contesting the elections. Around 2,260 of these groups represent political parties.
Ratnayake stated that nearly 425 nominations were rejected. He explained that nominations are reviewed by a Nomination Board, which follows Section 28 of the Act. Submissions failing to meet the required criteria are rejected, and each rejected group is informed in writing about the reasons for the rejection.
