A fatal motorcycle collision in the Beligamuwa area along the Dambulla-Kurunegala road this morning (April 21) has resulted in the deaths of a husband and wife.

The victims have been identified as a 30-year-old man and his 28-year-old wife, residents of the Dehiattakandiya area.

Police have reported that the couple's young son sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment in the hospital.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the motorcycle, travelling from Galewela towards Kurunegala, collided with a dog that was crossing the road. This caused the rider to lose control of the vehicle, which then veered off the road and into a roadside drain.

The three injured individuals were immediately taken to the Galewela Hospital.

Tragically, both the motorcycle rider and the female passenger succumbed to their injuries shortly after admission. Their son, who also sustained injuries, has since been transferred to the Dambulla Hospital for more specialised medical care, according to police sources.
