The Archbishop of Colombo, His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, made a strong appeal to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, calling for the immediate establishment of an independent prosecutor's office. The Cardinal emphasized that this independent body should possess full authority to monitor and further pursue investigations into the devastating 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.

Speaking at the commemoration event held at St. Anthony’s Church in Kochchikade today, Cardinal Ranjith underscored the critical need for justice and accountability for the victims and their families.

In his address, the Archbishop also urged President Dissanayake to conduct a thorough investigation into the recent allegations made by Channel 4. The broadcaster claimed potential links between military intelligence and Zahran Hashim, the primary suicide bomber in the attacks.

Cardinal Ranjith stressed that a transparent and comprehensive investigation, free from any political interference, is the right of the victims and essential for the nation to heal.
