A senior disciplinary officer and a security officer from the Eastern Provincial Office of the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) were apprehended yesterday (22), on bribery charges after allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs.100,000.

The arrests followed a complaint lodged by a resident of Kantale.

The incident stems from a disciplinary inquiry initiated against a bus conductor from the Trincomalee depot, who was working on the Trincomalee-Vavuniya route.

Inspectors had penalised the conductor for not issuing a ticket to a passenger, leading to his suspension.

Despite the investigation concluding without any adverse findings against the conductor, the two officials allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs.100,000 to facilitate his reinstatement.

Officers from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption made the arrests, accusing the senior disciplinary officer and the security officer of demanding and receiving the bribe.

The security officer allegedly acted as the intermediary for the transaction.

The arrested suspects are scheduled to be presented before the Kalmunai Magistrate's Court.
