Vaibhav Suryavanshi, representing the Rajasthan Royals, achieved the remarkable feat against the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The teenage left-hander reached his hundred in just 35 balls, the second-fastest in IPL history and the quickest ever by an Indian player. He brought up the milestone in spectacular fashion, dispatching Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan for a six.
Suryavanshi's explosive innings in Jaipur included seven boundaries and 11 sixes before he was eventually dismissed for a stunning 101 off just 38 deliveries. His performance helped the Royals comfortably chase down a target of 210, securing an eight-wicket victory over Gujarat.
Having only turned 14 last month, Suryavanshi was signed by the Royals at last year's auction for 11 million Indian rupees (approximately £103,789). Earlier in April, he became the youngest player to ever feature in the IPL, marking his debut by hitting his very first ball for six.
He displayed that same confident approach as he took apart the Gujarat bowling attack, making light work of the challenging run chase. Suryavanshi forged a formidable 166-run partnership with fellow India batter Yashasvi Jaiswal, who remained unbeaten on 70 from 40 balls.
The century came in the 11th over, with a powerful six over deep mid-wicket. Only West Indies legend Chris Gayle has reached the hundred mark faster in the IPL, achieving it in 30 balls for Royal Challengers Bengaluru back in 2013.
This victory ends a sequence of five consecutive defeats for Rajasthan, keeping their hopes of progressing to the knockout stages alive.
Meanwhile, Gujarat, despite an impressive 84 from 50 balls by Shubman Gill and an unbeaten half-century from their former England captain Jos Buttler in a losing effort, have slipped to third place in the IPL table based on net run-rate.
