Two men, including a soldier, have been arrested for allegedly illegally transporting live ammunition on a motorcycle in Uva Paranagama.
According to police, the arrests took place last night, September 19, in the Moragolla area during a night patrol.
Officers grew suspicious when the two men, who weren't wearing helmets, ignored their signal to stop.
After a brief chase, police managed to apprehend them and discovered the ammunition hidden inside the motorcycle's battery holder.
Allegedly, police found 17 nine-millimetre rounds, one 38-millimetre round, two H.S.D. rounds, and a blank round.
One of the suspects was identified as a soldier from the Sinha Regiment, and both men are scheduled to be produced in court today.
