The government is set to introduce a series of reforms to the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) to provide safer and more comfortable services to the public.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Ports, Transport, and Civil Aviation, Bimal Rathnayake, at the launch of a new programme to develop 25 SLTB depots.
The programme began at the Talangama depot and aims to improve the financial management of depots, make them profitable, and enhance employee welfare.
Minister Rathnayake said the reforms at the Talangama depot will be completed in three months at a cost of Rs.125 million, with assistance from the Road Development Authority.
He added that a percentage of the profits will be set aside for employees as a benefit for providing a disciplined and efficient service.
Deputy Minister Chaturanga Abeysinghe and Members of Parliament Chandana Suriyarachchi and Asitha Niroshan were also in attendance.
