The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) stated that the decision not to accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi was made due to political reasons. They now await the swift delivery of the trophy and medals via mail to the cricket institution in Mumbai, India.
As a result of the missing trophy, Indian players were seen celebrating their victory on an empty stage.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia labelled Naqvi's act of taking the trophy during the presentation as "extremely unfortunate and unsportsmanlike."
The BCCI further emphasised that if the trophy and medals are not promptly sent to India, they plan to lodge a strong protest at the upcoming International Cricket Council (ICC) conference in November.
It was also reported that the Indian team had requested the trophy be given to them before they left the camp, but this request was denied.
