Newly appointed President of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL), Eng. Kosala Kamburadeniya, emphasised the importance of integrating technology, policy, and ethics to address the evolving challenges of modern society at the organisation’s 119th Annual Sessions, held at the BMICH.
Eng. Kamburadeniya outlined his vision for the year ahead, highlighting the vital role of engineers in promoting national progress, innovation, and sustainability.
The ceremony was graced by Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando, Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning, as the Chief Guest. The Keynote Address was delivered by Prof. Prathibha Mahanamahewa, Rector of the Sri Palee Campus of the University of Colombo, who discussed the intersection of ethics, leadership, and innovation in both engineering and law.
Outgoing President Eng. Granie R. Jayalath delivered the welcome address, reflecting on IESL’s achievements and ongoing efforts to enhance professional excellence among engineers.
A key highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Eng. (Dr.) A. C. Visvalingam Award for the Most Outstanding Engineer of the Year 2025 to Eng. S. M. A. Nelugolla, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the engineering profession and society.
In his remarks, Minister Dr. Fernando acknowledged the engineering profession’s critical role in economic growth and sustainable development and commended the IESL for its continued contributions to policy formulation, education, and innovation, particularly through initiatives such as the Junior Inventor of the Year and Undergraduate Inventor of the Year programs.
