Seven train services scheduled today (20) have been cancelled after an intercity express train traveling from Kandy to Colombo Fort derailed near the Ihala Kotte railway station yesterday afternoon (19), the Railway Department stated.
The department mentioned that re-railing the train is expected to take a considerable amount of time due to the prevailing heavy rains and the difficulty in accessing the location.
Due to the incident, a total of seven services have been cancelled: three express trains from Colombo Fort to Kandy, Matale, and Badulla, and four trains from Kandy, Matale, and Badulla to Colombo Fort and Beliatta.
The cancelled services are:
5:50 AM Colombo Fort to Badulla
7:00 AM Colombo Fort to Kandy (Intercity Express)
10:35 AM Colombo Fort to Matale
4:50 AM Matale to Colombo Fort
5:00 AM Kandy to Beliatta
6:15 AM Kandy to Colombo Fort
8:30 AM Badulla to Colombo Fort
Additionally, the Railway Department has made adjustments to other services. The trains scheduled to depart from Colombo Fort to Badulla at 8:30 AM and 9:45 AM will now commence their journeys from Kandy station at their scheduled times. Furthermore, the 5:30 AM train from Badulla to Colombo Fort will only operate up to Kandy station tomorrow.
