The Railway Control Room announced that due to the prevailing adverse weather conditions, train services on the Up Country railway line have been limited to running only between Badulla and Kandy.

The following trains scheduled to depart from Colombo Fort today (October 20th) did not operate:

• "Podi Menike" Train (No. 1005): Scheduled to run from Colombo Fort to Badulla at 5:55 AM.


• "Udarata Menike" Train (No. 1015): Scheduled to run at 8:30 AM.


• Special Express Train (No. 1007): Scheduled to run at 9:45 AM.

Altered and Limited Services

• The Night Mail Train (No. 1046), which arrived in Kandy from Badulla last night (October 19th), was turned back from Kandy Railway Station and operated as the "Podi Menike" (No. 1005) towards Badulla at 8:55 AM today.


• The "Udarata Menike" (No. 1015) and the Special Express Train (No. 1007) are scheduled to run from Peradeniya Junction Railway Station towards Badulla.


• The Mixed Goods Train (No. 1126), which usually runs from Kandy to Badulla at 4:10 AM, operated only up to Nanu Oya today.


• The Mixed Goods Train (No. 1596), which starts from Badulla towards Kandy at 11:40 AM, will only run up to Nanu Oya.

Cancelled Trains (Up Country to Colombo)

• The "Podi Menike" Train (No. 1006), scheduled to run from Badulla to Colombo Fort at 8:50 AM, was cancelled today.


• The "Calypso" Tourist Train (No. 1232), operating between Badulla and Bandarawela, was cancelled today.

Trains that Operated (Badulla to Kandy)

• The "Udarata Menike" Train (No. 1016) departed from Badulla towards Kandy at 5:50 AM.


• The "Ella Odyssey" Tourist Train (No. 1028) departed from Badulla towards Kandy at 7:40 AM.

The disruptions to the Badulla to Colombo Fort services on the Up Country line are due to landslides and earth slips on the track between Ihalakotte and Kadugannawa, and the derailment of the Kandy-Colombo Fort Intercity Express after it was hit by an earth slip near Ihalakotte.
