Rs. 30 million has been collected from drivers paying spot fines digitally in just two months across the Western Province and the Dambulla-Anuradhapura road section.

Harsha Purasinghe, Chairman of the Task Force on Digital Affairs of the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development, confirmed the figure yesterday (20).

The revenue comes from over 20,000 transactions made via the GovPay digital payment platform.

This system for traffic spot fines was launched in the Western Province in August 2025, following a successful trial along the route from Kurunegala to Anuradhapura.

The initiative is now expanding across the country.

The Southern Province introduced the GovPay platform for fines last Friday, and the Northern Province is scheduled to be next.

Purasinghe expressed confidence in the project's rapid roll-out, adding:"We hope to cover all the provinces before the end of this year.
