An incident of abduction and demanding ransom involving two friends who were talking by the roadside has been reported from the Negombo Police Division.


The incident took place on the night of the day before yesterday.


Negombo Police stated that a complaint was lodged regarding the incident on 26.


The complainant is a businessman, a resident of Periyamulla, Negombo.


The complaint states that while the two friends were chatting by the roadside, two individuals arrived in a van, assaulted the complainant and his friend, and forced them into the vehicle.


They were then taken to the Katunayake area, where they were assaulted and held for ransom.


Unable to endure the beating, the complainant managed to contact his sister, who is abroad, and had Rs. 200,000 transferred to a bank account, which was then handed over to the kidnappers.


The complainant stated that after receiving the ransom money, the abductors released him and his friend.


No arrests have been made over the incident yet, and the Negombo Police are conducting further investigations.
