Colombo Additional Magistrate Liyan Warusawithana today (28) ordered the Wellampitiya Police to disarm a foreign-made live hand grenade discovered in the Wellampitiya area and report the facts to the court.
The live grenade was discovered during an investigation launched after the Police Emergency Call Unit received a tip-off.
A team of police officers found the foreign-made hand grenade near an electricity pole in the Kohuwalawaththa area, Wellampitiya.
The directive was issued after the Wellampitiya Police requested an order to safely disarm the explosive device.
The police informed the court that further investigations into the incident are underway.
