Irrigation officials opened the spill gates of the Deduru Oya and Inginimitiya reservoirs due to heavy rainfall affecting several areas of the island. Two spill gates of the Deduru Oya reservoir were opened by one foot each at 7:30 pm yesterday, releasing a water volume of 1,400 cubic feet per second into the river according to the Wariyapola Regional Irrigation Engineer’s Office.

Four spill gates of the Inginimitiya reservoir also remain open, with two gates opened by three feet and the other two by two feet. The Irrigation Department states that this results in a water discharge of 5,000 cubic feet per second into the Mi Oya.
