Repairs remain underway on the Upcountry railway line, which sustained severe damage due to the impact of Cyclone Ditwah.

Deputy Minister of Transport Prasanna Gunasena states that authorities expect to restore the Upcountry railway line and resume train operations before the end of this year.

The local railway system faced severe disruptions due to the impact of Cyclone Ditwah last year.

The Upcountry railway line, which attracts significant interest from both local and foreign tourists, experienced the highest impact from the disaster.

Estimates indicate that the damage caused to the Upcountry railway line by Cyclone Ditwah exceeds US$ 300 million US dollars.

While authorities already restored certain damaged sections of the railway line, repairs on other parts of the track continue.
