Former Pakistan captain and legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram has warned that the growing number of T20 tournaments and packed cricket schedules are “killing the spirit” of the game.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest opening bowlers in cricket history, Akram was in Sri Lanka for three days, where he participated in a video shoot and a special promotional campaign for Softlogic Life.

In an exclusive interview with Hiru News, he said the increasing number of short-format tournaments is moving cricket away from its traditional identity as the “gentleman’s game.”

“These factors are taking the game away from what it was known for over centuries. It does not augur well for the sport,” he said.

Praising Sri Lanka, Akram also said the country has strong potential to become the “best tourism destination” in the world.

“I have visited Sri Lanka many times and I love its people, culture, nature, and food. I want to come back again soon, and next time I hope to visit the Eastern Province,” he added.

Softlogic Life Insurance PLC also launched its new commercial in the presence of Chairman Ashok Pathirage, featuring Wasim Akram. The event also saw the official launch of Wild Cookbook, reinforcing Softlogic Life’s commitment to promoting active lifestyles and lifelong health through its “Health ForLife” promise.
